PORCELAIN VENEERS

Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth-shaped porcelain custom-made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front teeth to create a beautiful smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions. Veneers at Nordlie’s Family Dentistry are custom-made for each patient with wafer-thin porcelain shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth. Your new custom-made veneers can dramatically improve your existing teeth’ shape, size, and color.

COSMETIC BONDING

Dr. Nordlie often recommends dental bonding as a low-cost option to improve your smile for stained, chipped, cracked, or decayed teeth that need repair. Dental bonding materials bond to the tooth’s structure that is being restored. Dr. Nordlie can use the bonding resin to create natural, beautiful modifications for the cracks and chips in the teeth, filling gaps, recoloring, or reshaping teeth. The resin is available in many shades to match the color of your other teeth.

SMILE WHITENING

Many everyday things like coffee, tea, and wine can significantly dull teeth. Smile-whitening enables us to brighten your smile for that dazzling smile you deserve dramatically. First, Dr. Nordlie will create plastic whitening trays from models of your teeth. You then place a special whitening gel in each tray and wear the trays in your mouth for several hours per day (many patients wear their trays after dinner and before bed). Our patients usually notice a significant difference in just four to six weeks!

FAMILY CARE

Dr. Nordlie believes that preventive care is the foundation of everything he does. While it’s tremendously exciting to restore someone’s smile and function so they can eat again, it’s even more rewarding to keep his patients healthy and smiling each day. With proper brushing, flossing, and mouthwash – and with regular maintenance in our Federal Way office, we know you’ll enjoy a lifetime of smiles. ORAL CANCER

We take a holistic approach to your dental care, which includes an oral cancer screening as a part of your regular exam. Like many kinds of cancer, oral cancer can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated early. We have the skills and tools to identify early signs and symptoms of oral cancer and pre-cancerous conditions. While other, less severe problems may cause these symptoms, it is essential to visit our office regularly to rule out the possibility of oral cancer.

RELAX WITH SEDATION

If you have an unpleasant memory of visiting the dentist from your childhood, a mishap during a previous restoration, or you may be somewhat embarrassed that you haven’t been keeping up with your regular check-ups. We don’t judge and want to put you at ease. Experienced and compassionate sedation dentists like Dr. Nordlie and his Federal Way dental team understand your concerns and can make your dental visit completely relaxing and fear-free with sedation.

What is Dental Botox?

Dental Botox, an innovative treatment offered by Nordlie’s Family Dentistry, is a non-surgical procedure that uses Botulinum toxin to alleviate various dental issues. This toxin, when injected in small quantities, can relax the muscles, reducing or eliminating pain, discomfort, and other dental problems. Dr. Linchuan Wang, an experienced dentist in Federal Way, uses this treatment to address conditions such as TMJ disorders, bruxism, and even for cosmetic enhancements. Botox is safe, minimally invasive, and offers quick relief, making it a popular choice among patients seeking effective solutions for various dental concerns.

The Benefits Of Dental Botox in Federal Way, WA

  • Pain Relief
One of the primary benefits of Botox is its ability to provide significant pain relief. It is particularly effective in treating conditions like TMJ disorders and bruxism, where overactive jaw muscles cause pain and discomfort. By relaxing these muscles, Botox can reduce or eliminate pain, enhancing your comfort and quality of life. This minimally invasive treatment offers a non-surgical alternative to more invasive procedures, allowing patients to enjoy a pain-free life without the need for extensive recovery time.

  • Cosmetic Enhancement
In addition to its therapeutic uses, Botox can also offer cosmetic benefits. It can reduce the appearance of gummy smiles, where excessive gum tissue is visible above the top teeth when smiling. Botox can relax the upper lip muscles, resulting in a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing smile. This subtle enhancement can significantly boost self-confidence and improve first impressions, making it a valuable option for those seeking minor adjustments with major impacts.

  • Preventive Care
Botox can also serve as a preventive measure. For patients with bruxism, Botox can reduce excessive teeth grinding and clenching, which, if left untreated, can lead to severe dental issues such as tooth wear and breakage. By addressing these issues early, Botox can help maintain your oral health in the long run.

Determining Botox Candidacy

Botox is an excellent option for those who want an effective yet minimally invasive cosmetic treatment. This popular treatment has high patient satisfaction rates in improving facial appearance and reducing signs of aging. Botox is low-risk yet effective and does not involve downtime for recovery like cosmetic surgery does.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were 7.23 million Botox procedures performed in 2017. Botox may be the right treatment for patients who first start to notice moderate lines on the face, typically after age 30 or so. However, everyone’s facial lines form differently due to a combination of factors, including genetics and the environment. Patients should be healthy and not pregnant or breastfeeding. People with allergies to any of the ingredients, muscle or nerve conditions, or active infections may not be good candidates for this treatment.

The Botox Injection Process

Individuals commonly get Botox to target forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines around the mouth. During the procedure, the medical practitioner will choose several injection sites on the face to inject using a small needle. Injections take about 15 to 30 minutes to administer in one appointment. Some swelling, redness and bruising are normal after the appointment. Botox treatment requires little recovery, so most patients can return to their regular routine right away.

The study above also found that the results of Botox are quick, with clinical effects appearing one to four days after injection. A few days after the injections, patients can see a smoother facial appearance, and any bruising or swelling should disappear. The results will last three to 12 months, depending on the type of treatment the patient received. Since this is a temporary treatment, Botox® starts to lose effect after four to six months, and wrinkles and fine lines will return. Scheduling top-up appointments at around four months keeps the face looking refreshed.

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a chronic condition that prevents individuals from achieving deep sleep. Since deep sleep is necessary to feel properly rested the next day, as well as achieving optimal overall health, sleep apnea has the potential to be quite debilitating when untreated. While there are multiple forms of sleep apnea, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common. OSA occurs when a blockage in the throat, whether it’s the tongue, tonsils, soft/hard palate or other oral structure, prevents proper air flow to the lungs.

How Does an Oral Appliance Work?

OSA is caused by a physical obstruction in the throat. When you become very relaxed during sleep, you lose control of the lower jaw and the muscles which keep air flowing throughout the day — and their collapse results in deprived sleep and the repeated loss of oxygen to the brain.

The oral appliance can provide significant help. It is a small device that you wear while you sleep. It looks something like an athletic mouthguard, and it works by holding the lower jaw in place. This prevents it from shifting back or collapsing and allows for the smooth, uninterrupted flow of breath from the lungs and then throughout the body for deeper, more restful sleep.

The Dangers of Sleep Apnea

When a blockage is present, the brain triggers an emergency response to the body that forces you awake. This is good, largely in part because it prevents you from suffocating in your sleep. However, it also prevents you from achieving deep sleep, resulting in a slew of short- and long-term side effects and complications that can affect you later in life. While the short-term side effects include chronic fatigue, irritability, and lower productivity, the long-term effects include a higher risk for heart disease and stroke, higher chances of experiencing a car accident, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes.

Excessive Snoring

It’s worth noting that even if you don’t have sleep apnea, those who suffer from excessive snoring can also benefit from an oral appliance from our dental office. In some cases, excessive snoring can even develop into sleep apnea if left untreated. With that said, loud or excessive snoring is not the only symptom associated with the condition and therefore should not be immediately assumed as sleep apnea until further examination. The best way to confirm if sleep apnea is present is to complete a sleep study.
